The anti-inflammatory powers of this latte is what makes it so special!
Inflammation is an essential response in the body meant to help protect against dangers such as stress, infection, and outside toxins. However, when the body stays in an inflamed state, it can cause diseases such as cancer, heart disease, arthritis, and obesity; among others.
Curcumin is a molecule in the turmeric that gives it the bright sunny colour, and holds the anti-inflammatory properties. While the turmeric is the star of the latte, the remaining ingredients hold anti-inflammatory properties as well making this cup of sunshine a delicious way to stave off inflammation daily.
Ingredients (serves 1):
- 1 cup - unsweetened almond milk
- 1/2 tsp - turmeric
- 1/2 tsp - cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp - fresh grated ginger
- 1 tsp - extra virgin coconut oil
- 1 tsp - raw organic honey (optional)
In a small sauce pan, heat the almond milk over medium-high heat. Stir often with a wire whisk. The milk does NOT need to come to a boil, but once steamy, mix in the turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, coconut oil, and honey. Blend well with the whisk, creating a bit of foam. Pour into your favourite mug or glass, and enjoy!
EXTRA: Some research is showing that ground black pepper helps the curcumin be absorbed more easily by the bloodstream. With that in mind, you can sprinkle a bit of pepper and cinnamon on top for some visual appeal with an added benefit!
